What is unit cost?

The total expense to produce, store, and sell one unit of a product or service. It includes both fixed costs (like rent or equipment) and variable costs (such as labor and materials). The unit cost equals the sum of fixed and variable costs divided by the number of units produced. Knowing this metric helps companies set prices and identify areas for cost reduction.
