What is liability?

A legal or financial obligation a company has to outside parties, such as suppliers, lenders, or employees. Liabilities arise from past transactions or events and are settled over time through cash payments, product deliveries, or service provision. Common examples include accounts payable, loans, taxes owed, and accrued expenses.
