What is vertical consolidation?

A business strategy where a company acquires or merges with its suppliers or distributors to gain greater control over its supply chain and reduce dependence on third parties. Unlike horizontal consolidation, which involves merging with competitors in the same industry, vertical consolidation strengthens control over the supply chain rather than expanding market presence.
